The Revised Valuations do take a bit of getting used to but are well worth the effort.  Remember that the dates quoted may lag somewhat behind the actual event because the valuations were done periodically.

You can also search forwards from the early records using http://www.askaboutireland.ie/ Click on Griffiths Valuation and enter the names and county fields.  This brings up about 12 possibilities.  The most likely seems to be in the townland of Fallagloon. In VAL/12/B/34/29A you will find James Kearney at house 89b in Fallagloon.  In the next book, 29B, (covers 1864-1883) you can see that James has left but unfortunately no date appears.  There is at least a strong possibility that this is your James.

Happy hunting.

Hi Glensman,

Well I have been searching thru all the revised valuations for all the details in the different books. I also found another relative in the Rocktown Book ad have managed to trace them as well right thru books B - F and also think I've managed to find the name of a wife that I didn't know so gives me something to work on. So a big thank you for the tip.

I do have another question tho, as it proved really helpful I wanted to go back and look thru and trace the movements of other relatives but couldn't work out how to find the correct book for them. They are all in the Maghera area but not all in Rocktown, I tried to find a particular elusive relative who I have down as living in Dreenan but couldn't find how to search for  the book for that area.

Many thanks
Heather

I'm delighted that you are making progress.  Just keep the coffee handy.
