James Michael of Perrannarworthal, Gluvias
« on: Saturday 10 May 14 00:34 BST (UK) »
An ancestor of mine James Michael was born around 1810 in Perranarworhtal, the baptism that fits is that of a son of James and Ann Michael. It appears that she was Ann Rouse and James was their eldest son. Following through they had John, Charles, Grace, Mary Ann, Eliza, Matilda and Belinda/Melinda.

The father, James, is what really has me puzzled. According to the marriage record he was a widower, so I looked for another marriage and the closest I could find to another marriage of his is to Elizabeth Coad in 1800 at Gwennap. However this family's surname seems to be more Michell. This couple only appear to have had 2 daughters: Mary and Elizabeth.

I believe James (the father) died in July 1836 and was buried in Kenwyn and his wife Ann died in 1852. On the baptisms of his children James is given as a powder maker

What I'd like to know is more further back about the Michael/Michell family... Does anyone think the Michell-Coad marriage seems to work with the Michael-Rouse one? Who were James' parents?

Thanks,
Blake  :)

Hi

There is another marriage abt. 14 miles away of a James Michael and an Ann Beel 22 Oct 1800 . They too baptised 2 children Betsy 1803 and Ann 1805. Can't find anything else on them though.

Can't find a burial of an Ann Michael between 1805 -1810.

Hi

Interestingly on the marriage in 1800to Ann Beel,  James was a 'sojourner', same as the marriage to Ann Rouse in 1810, here's a link to all three marriages, do you think any of the signatures appear similar

James and Ann Beel

Thanks Claire.

Now that you have found this Beel marriage I remember seeing a tree that had my James' parents as James Michael and Ann Beel, but I thought it didn't work. However that being his first marriage does work. Also I think the signatures on the Ann Beel and Ann Rouse marriages look more similar than the one on the marriage to Elizabeth Coad.

Hi

I though they looked similar too, writing slanting upwards, couple of the letters were quite similar too.

So we're ruling out Elizabeth Coad and saying Ann Beel was the previous marriage? That works better because the other family seem to be Michells...

Can anyone help with the parentage of James? His burial record puts his birth at around 1775

This is the website that lists James as being the son James Michael and Ann Beel... http://topperwien.com/genealogy/trees/people/p0000j4l.htm#I40207
