1861 shows James Linton b 1835 Stonehaven - Isabella was b  1836 Aberdeen

I can't see any obvious connection to a Hercules Linton so how has Hercules appeared on your family tree?

The tree should show the connection

Perhaps speaking to the relatives may get more info as to any link - As both James & Hercules had fathers called Alexander - I think that rules them out as cousins
