St Davids, Llanelli
« on: Friday 08 February 08 12:59 GMT (UK) »
I recived a wedding cert of James Roach & Anne Doyle 11 6 1864 @ the Roman Catholic chapel Swansea
their residence at the time of marriage is St Davids, Llanelly. Again I am getting confused with Wales
I thought that there is an area in carmarthen called St Davids, Even one in Swansea but I am unable to track one down in Llanelli

Any ideas???

If anyone can read the writing at the top for me that would be great

thanks

Yeah there is a house, no 1 st davids and on the next page they are all numberd St Davids Cottage. it looks like quite a long ro
Were there street names back in 1871? or did people just go by their house name?

I also see that it is in the parish of trinity, Llanelli. Again i can find no referance to that only Holy Trinity churches, but none that tie in with St Davids.
Just found the end the district on the census ( page 6) and it says
The End Of Trinity Chapel by Ecclesiastical parish so i am now thinking St Davids must be by a Trinity church?

It seems everything has been built over now, so it gets very difficult to visit the places that my ancestors lived

Found a related thread on another site's forum.

Here is a brief but very relevant quote from "Alwyn Jenkins"  ~

"Rutland Street no longer exists. The Roman Catholic Church could be St.David's, which is in that vicinity & still open."

I've been away for a few days, but in answer to your questions.  Yes. St.David's Chapel is indeed still there.  It is next to the St.David's multi storey car park.  St. David's shopping centre (now defunct mostly) is built over what was Rutland Street.  There used to be a school in Rutland Street, which my mother went to, but there was also a separate Catholic School at the back end of the Church back then.  I

Hello,
I have been researching my family tree this year and came across this site.  The people you have mentioned, I tihink, are ancestors of mine 4th great grandparent on my fathers side.  I have all the census material related to them.  James came from Kilkenny in Ireland and his wife Ann is from the Bryn near Llanelli.  I hope they are the same people if so I would love to see what information you have as it is hard completing this side as information is rather limited.  I am on ancestry with my family  tree and it is open to the public so search for their names in the public family tree.  Hope this is of some help.
