Harridges to Ceylon
« on: Tuesday 16 November 10 21:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to track down some information regarding a Harridge travelling from Essex (Canvey Island area I think) to Ceylon in the early 1800s I believe. I have some sketchy information about a Peter Harridge belonging to the 19th Regiment Light Dragoons and being stationed in Ceylon in 1812 but this is unconfirmed.

There is alot of information regarding Crisp M Harridge and family but I'm not sure if the person I'm looking for is releated somehow.

Essentially I'm looking for the ancestors of W(illiam?) Harridge (married Emma in Ceylon) who then had Edgar Clarence Harridge. Edgar's daughter Iris was then born in 1914.

I do have contacts in Sri Lanka but still it's proving difficult to make a match.

Hope someone can help.

Nathan.

Hi

From the FIBIS database

Bombay Times

28th November 1849
At Slave Island Ceylon on Tuesday the 30th October the wife of Mr Peter Harridge of a son

12th April 1851
On the morning of the 24th March the wife of Mr P Harridge of a son Ceylon

There doesn't seem any evidence that Peter Harridge (1812) was the brother of Crisp Harridge

It might be worth contacting this website to see if a Peter Harridge has been found amongst the Harridge family so far researched

Hi Kushfer,

I'm married to one of Iris' grand daughters. Living in Sydney, Australia.

I've been trying to find the Harridge trail from the UK to Ceylon. Do you have any info on this?

The info I have is that Edgar Clarence and Mary Ann Ludowyke had:

Iris
Victor St Alban
Carl
Melville
Noel
Gordon
Noble Love
Joyce
Dorris

on your side - Joyce married Charlie Tennekoon and they had six kids of which I have names (but will leave out of this forum for privacy as they're living)
