Elizabeth Gale maybe Savery married an Albert in Canada. Albert is unknown?
« on: Monday 29 September 14 13:56 BST (UK) »
Hello,

We are trying to solve the following family story. We have an Elizabeth Gale born 22 Jan 1911 Aldershot, Hampshire, England. She married a Henry E Savery in 1938 in Dover, Kent. Her neice had always known her has single when growing up, so we think Henry must of died shortly after they married or they separted maybe. Elizabeth married an Albert on the 22 Dec 1975 as we have a photo of them with the date and signed Liz & Albert. We think she married in Canada as she had a half brother known as Ted who lived out there, we think Ted as he was known was slightly older maybe. Their parents were Edgar Gale & Harriet Walker who lived mainly in Dover, Kent England, but did end their days in Hythe Kent, England. We know that Both Elizabeth & Albert have died, but do not when. Albert had a son known as Bert. We would be most greaful if anyone can confirm Albert's surname, and where they lived, married and died. Also if they can find the link on Ted as he is a mystery. We have photos but that's it.

Thanks in advance and I hope I've given enough information too.

Hi there

Regarding "Ted" the supposed half-brother - might he in fact have been her older (full) brother, with Ted being short for Edgar?

Edgar Gale (senior)'s Army records list his family as follows:

Hello All,

Ray - Unfortunately we have no idea about the Henry. We found this marriage by a newspaper clipping for a younger brother where it stated Elizabeth Savery as a sister was at the grave side. We then found the marriage to a Henry E Savery. Our guess is he died at war maybe.

avm228 - No definitely not her brother Edgar as we have photos of all the children plus 'Ted'.

MaureeninNY - Yes she definitely married at 64 years old as the photo we have of their wedding matches up with her age.

We have family photos and our contact is the daughter of their brother Victor. She knows he was called Ted and mainly lived in Canada and Elizabeth went out there in her later years and married Albert. The family story is that the father Edgar went missing for a few years while at war or just after war, this is how uncle 'Ted' came about. Looking at the war record tho we can only see Edgar in Afica not Canada, but local history shows lots of Canadians in Dover, Kent during the war years. We are also not quite sure of this 'Ted' s surname, we assume it would be Gale but am unsure.
Our thoughts were if we could find the information of Elizabeth's marriage and death this may provide a link to TED.

Elizabeth married Albert George Baden Powell Lovelock on 22 Dec 1975

He died in Canada on 27 November 1987

This information comes from a nephew of Elizabeth, who corresponded with her when she moved to Canada.

Her brothers Edgar and George both appear on Canadian shipping records sailing from Southampton and arriving in Quebec on 28 Jun 1928.

My understanding is that Elizabeth was closely involved with the Salvation Army, and had corresponded with Albert for many years as he too was involved with the S.A. She had never met him in person before she travelled to Canada. When she joined him in Canada they worked with the S.A. together. Thus it was not a surprise to see that Edgar and George's passage had been paid by the S.A.

(I am new to this site and currently seem unable to reply to private messages I receive - will try to resolve this and answer any questions that arise.)
