I received the death certificate of Harriet Glue to discover she died of tuberculosis whilst in the Petersfield union workhouse, age 22.   The informant being the workhouse master.

It also states her as being a domestic servant at WESTMEON R.D.     Any ideas what the R.D. might stand for?

Thanks
Regards

Helen

Are you sure it's not written Rd. meaning, road?  Otherwise R.D usually means Registration District but that wouldn't be used as an address,

Jane

Hi Jane

Its definately R.D.

Its in the occupation column, in full it states:

Spinster (Servant Domestic) of Westmeon R.D.

West Meon seems to be small parish on the edge of Petersfield.

Yes, I've had further confirmation that R.D. stands for Rural District.

Thank you all.

Hello.

just to complete rhis post Ellen died also from tuberculosis, informant Workhouse master so Cornelius is definately absent for both the death of hisvwife and daughter.  All a very sad story.

Despite being married in Lancing in 1884, Harriet was baptised just up the road in Sussex, they certainly moved around a bit.

my only remaining lead is to find some time to go down to Kew one day and look at the muster roles for a possible military career in the Irish dragoons.

May have to park this mystery.

xx
