Wow! Yours are definitely the more enterprising part of the family.
Maria's brother James (my gggrandfather) married Ruth Martin and they had 6 children, one of which was William ,my ggrandfather. He was a blacksmith in Pirbright,as was one of his sons. The forge is still there and my twin sister has been to take photos as the owner is about to knock it down for redevelopment.Another son was Francis Henry Willcocks, who set up home in Wimbledon where my grandmother's family of Berryman lived. My 2nd cousin(,nee Teresa Willcocks),and yours also I suppose, whom I have not met yet, has photos in the family of William Willcocks and his wife Eliza outside the forge.
My father was Eric Francis Willcocks and he lived all his life in Wimbledon. He was football enthusiast and took early retirement at 55 to become commercial manager of Wimbledon Football Club until he died sadly very prematurely in 1986 at 64.The local paper did a front page spread on him and called him Mr.Wimbledon!
I have only found ? 2 pairs of twins in the Willcocks tree.John Willcocks and Ruth Martin ?had a boy and girl twins who died as infants and a boy and girl Jasper and ann Nyren born 1736.Do you know of any others?
Do you know how George and Mary came to marry in St.Martin's in the Fields? Was george from central London?
I think you might have guessed I'm hooked on ancestry too.

Hi Helwill,

Thanks for sharing that its very interesting and I appreciate it.

George b. 1800  was from Billingshurst, Sussex. His ancestors going back to around 1600 were also from Billingshurst/Horsham area.   This next bit is guesswork but kinda fits.  He was a Journeyman/Tailor.  I take that to mean he travelled around for his work.  He probably arrived  in Arundel which is not far from Billingshurst and got a permanent job at Arundel Castle.  He then met Mary who lived in Slindon 3 miles from Arundel.  Maybe she worked at the Castle or maybe in a house in Arundel. There is no explanation as to why they married in London, could Mary have had relatives there? There are names of witnessess on marriage cert that may help but dont haven them with me at moment.  I am at work!  Some time after 1828 they returned to Arundel.  Their  first daughter Elizabeth was christened in Arundel  1831 where they  and most Redmans remained to this day. He  remained a Tailor at the Castle until his early death in 1852.  It makes  my research a lot easier that we all remained in and around Arundel.  The only one to leave the county was George's son James The Tailor,  who lived in Lewisham and retired to Herne Bay in Kent. And obviously George who died at sea.

No twins that I can find except for dad's brother's girls.

After Georges death Mary re-married a William Leavy also a Tailor. Family lore has it he worked with George and lodged with him.  There is a marriage in Westhampnet,  registration district  for Slindon, in  1860.  But have not followed that lead yet.   They remained in Arundel.  Mary and William appear on 1871 census but on 1881 census he is a widower.  I have found a couple of unconfirmed deaths which could be her between those dates.

Once again I have gone on. If I were on Mastermind my specialist subject would be The Redmans of West Sussex.
