Samuel Patrick Moody born Drumlegagh
« on: Monday 06 June 11 01:22 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for any relations of my Samuel who was born around 1822.His father was listed as Samuel, mother Annie Herching ( I have wondered if Erskine may be her name as pronuciation may of been a problem back then). Samuel married Margaret Anderson in 1858 Donaghmore,Don, they had three sons born Samuel Patrick,William Fife and John James then they came to New Zealand in 1863 on the Queen of Beauty, but only Samuel is listed on passenger list. I found a Mary Moody came out on the Louisa in 1865 with Samuel,William and John this could be my family. They were living in Strabane when they came to NZ and owned a Mill. Margarets father is listed as David her mother was an Eady. John Anderson came to NZ and died 1943 he left all his estate to his siblings David,Samuel,Mary and Annabella all of Co. Tyrone. Does anyone have these names in their tree. John was a relation to Margaret but we don't know how.He was the same age as her children. He never married. Samuel and Margaret settled in Opotiki NZ and had 4 more sons,Oliver,Joseph,George Septimus and Thomas.Other names of grandchildren were Lavinia,Lewis(Louis),Stewart(said to be family name). The Fife name could be family name also. Story has it that the Moodies came from Paisley Renfrewshire in 1600's but we cannot confirm.I hope someone can add to my story from their family. We are going to hold a reunion for 2013 to commemorate 150 yrs in NZ.

Hi,
Griffiths Valuation ( a survey of all property in Ireland between 1847 and 1864) shows that in 1858 Samuel Moody rented a farm of 48 acres ( large in Irish terms) and a flax-mill from the Marquis of Abercorn in Drumlegagh.

Thanks for both those replies.

I had found Patrick Moody and made a connection to his family in Australia but they can not confirm anymore information as there are several Samuel Moody's in Ireland. Also Rebecca Moody I thought could be a sibling but have not found any body who has her on their tree.
Lets hope someone sees our posts.
It sounds like the flax-mill in 1858 could be my family as they were wealthy when they came out to NZ as they paid their own passage.

These photos are of Samuel Patrick Moody snr and his sons Samuel Patrick jnr,William Fife,John James,Oliver,Joseph, George Septimus,Thomas.
One that I can't identify but his family appears again in another photo and he appears in a photo with some of the other sons.
The person standing was taken in Dublin. The photograher was Moore his address 115 Grafton St opposite Trinity College Dublin the emblem in the middle between Moore and address says Highest Awards.I have not found any information on this photogragher to give me a time period. This photo was in the Moody album so it could be a Moody or Anderson.
Does any of these men have a likeness to any other family out there that could be connected.

Thanks for reading my post
