Silly person question

My grandfather was 29 in 1951 does that mean if he lived in Dungannon he would have done national service? If so, where would I look for these records?

WWII Northern Ireland was excempt "By 1942, all male British subjects between 18 to 51 years old, as well as all females 20 to 30 years old resident in Britain, were liable to be called. Only a few categories were exempted: Northern Ireland"

"To avoid possible civil unrest Northern Ireland was also excluded from conscription."

Trying to think of alternative sources to track down my family but haven't found them. Mum didn't think he had served. In 1951 he was a bus driver, does anyone know if there are records available for this?
