Have just received death and marriage certificate for the above named who was a great uncle of mine. On the marriage certificate he says he was a canteen assistant HMS St Vincent and on death certificate it says he was a Petty Officer in Royal Navy retired how do I find about his naval career?  He was married at St Paul's Church in Weymouth in 1915 and died in Weymouth and District Hospital in 1973.

hi
if he was still in the navy after 1920 then his service record will still be with the mod , go to www.veterans-uk.info  from there you,ll get all the necessary details of how to apply and the necessary forms , as you are not nok certain personal details will be left off the record .

According to the WW1 medal roll he was then serving in the Merchantile Marine Reserve, and was awarded the 1914-15 Star, Victory and British War Medals serving as a Canteen Assistant HMS St Vincent.
