I'd better speak up, here, Jane being my GR-GR-gramma and all...

Just this Friday, I heard from Richard, a descendant of George Wilshire, the younger and elder above.  He mentioned that George the Elder changed his name to Wilshire on moving to the IOW so don't waste your time looking for George Wilshire in Wiltshire in 1841 -- but the story's Richard's to tell as he knows the details.  I've sent the link of this thread to him, so hopefully he'll post tout de suite.   

Les, I'm excited that the Wiltshire connection theory linking the Hazells and the Wilshire/Tuckers, although first cousins!!

On IGI, the 1881 British Census has two likely candidates, one born 1814, Cherhill, Wiltshire, England who ends up in the Union Workhouse in Calne, Wiltshire, but he's Unmarried

The other is a coachman, like our William, born in CheVill, Wiltshire (rather than Cherhill, but that could be transcription)
born roughly 1815, living in 27 Sudeley Place, Brighton, Sussex, England
and married to
Eliza  who's 45 from Wingfield, Suffolk, England

However, it looks like Mary Ann Tucker Hazell might have died in 1868, so perhaps William remarried...

puts Mary Ann Tucker with her son's family (John and Jane Hazell, our tree line) in 1868.

Mary Ann Hazell (Tucker) gives 1818 Marlborough in 1861

Martha Wilshire (Tucker) gives 1815 Preshute in 1815.

Martha Tucker marries William Wait, in Preshute, and they have a son George b Aug 1841. At sometime she goes off to the IOW with George ? who calls himself Wishere, Wilshire, Wiltshire. Family legend is that someone eloped and changed the name to Wiltshire because they were from Wiltshire. He and Martha are Jane Clements parents 5/6/1848. He gives himself a different birth place on each census. They had children George, Jane Clements and Mary Ann with them. Martha dies in 1866 and in 1871 It says that George now has a wife - Mary Ann! I m trying to find out if the child Mary Ann is the same as the wife Mary Ann and who was her father - George?, William Wait.
I am new to this thread so am trying to get into who's who.

      1851 for a William Wait/e ... there are to many deaths to be sure.

In this same village 1841 is an Alfred CLEMENT 15.

As William Wait had dissappeared after George c1840...... ??
a William Wait found on a Convict ship. Then found a Wilts trial 1839 for same and transportation for 15 years.
Along with William 18, James Wait 21 both robbery. Thomas Wait 30, & Thomas Bush sheep stealing.


Then a Wm Wait on the "Mandarin" 1840 Cond Pardon. Not sure if this means his return to Eng... and thence becomes a policeman? age is out...
