Hi Paul...Jen isn't a moderator.  We all try to help one another on this public forum.

It didn't bother me in the least that you  had called me a moderator  there are some lovely  mods on  rootschat who do a wonderfull job ;) I realised it was no doubt a slip of  the pen so to speak.  I  do not pretend to be a moderator  that is for sure.

As Can do  has  said  we all try and help each other  out.

Hi all,
Cando , in reply #7 & #16 I did mention to Hilary that CHARLES HUNT ROOPE appears, according to my information, to be in an unmarked grave and there is no further information.

However, as my source is different from the one you cite, perhaps I am incorrect.

Hello, all. Thank you so much for the information you have shared.

Thanks Cando for your 2 pms today with even more information. I may be ordering the record re CH Roope.

I have pm'd Paul (thanks Jen) so should be in contact before long.

I agree that the odd convict or other black sheep of the family can make the family tree more interesting than the sometimes boring upper-crusty family members.  ;D  ;D  ;) I would have been happy with whatever I found. It was just very interesting to be able to find out so much about his family :) :).

Bit More,

At the Australian War Memorial's online site there's a photo of  Nurses and patients returning from WW1 to Australia, one of the nurses is listed as "Sister Roope"

http://cas.awm.gov.au/photograph/P01425.013

It may be that "Sister Roope" was Staff Nurse M E Pennefather [Mrs W J Roope] as mentioned in the Australian Imperial Force Headquarters (London) Administrative Registry - Medical personnel administration files at http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx

Hi
makes one wonder what happened. JENN
Yes, it does Jenn and I wonder if it goes towards explaining the unmarked grave which is recorded for him.(Though this information is not confirmed yet!!)

I have not been able to ocate any marriage or children for him, so perhaps he was  isolated from family at that time.

Hi Jenn and Hi Sue,

Re C H Roope, do either of you know which Electorate included HAY in say 1870's as I have 1870 and 1878 NSW rolls online.
