burials in Kirkcaldy
« on: Sunday 27 April 14 12:29 BST (UK) »
Looking for the burial place of William Penman [aged 7 months] buried, I think, 14 July 1851. Son of David Penman [baker] either Kirkcaldy or Dysart

Buried at Dysart "laying into the foot of Rachel Bell Clark's grave". I think there is a family connection between the Penmans and the Clarks as David Penman, a baker and son of William Penman, married Jane Clark in 1848, daughter of William Clark and Rachel's grave is near that of an Agnes Penman, who died in 1865.

I've just been looking to see whether there is a connection with my Penman ancestors, who were born/brought up in the area but nothing so far.

Regards

Thanks landj
Agnes Penman d 1865 is a daughter of David Penman and Jean/Jane Clark. Have not heard of Rachel Bell Clark before but at least I know where to look now. David Penman is my gt gt grandfather. Thanks again

David Dewar Penman's family does appear in Barbara Penman's One-Name Study in RootsWeb's WorldConnect site, but baby William is missing from the 11 siblings identified.

Yes I am in contact with Barbara but only with my grandfathers generation so far. Do you know which graveyard in Dysart the burials are? What year did Rachel Bell Clark die?
Thanks

Not exactly sure which graveyard but I think it was probably the churchyard itself, which closed in 1868 when Dysart cemetery opened.

Rachel, aged 10 years, was interred 18 August 1850 "laying from the North Dyke 35 and a half feet and from the east dyke 24 and a half feet into the grave of James Bell".

Just looked at the OPR reference and cross-checked against Genuki's information.  The OPR ref is 460/00 008 0405, so I think it may be St Serf's but I'm not entirely sure.

Thanks Ian,
Hoping to visit Kirkcaldy next month and do a bit of graveyard searching so this is a great help.
I guess there will be no gravestones though. Which is a shame
Thanks again
Kerry

Just found that Rachel Clarks father [William] and my gt gt grandmother [Jane Clark] were brother and sister
Thanks for your help
