HILL /COX of Dursley
« on: Thursday 26 February 04 01:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

John HILL married Elizabeth TALBOYS 1816 at Dursley, had 11 children.

Thomas HILL b 1820 married Harriet COX  in Dursley about 1841-2, had 4 children all born in Breconshire, Wales
Thomas died about 1851 and Harriet then married William GIBBS. They sailed to Australia 1858.

Harriet's parents were Richard and ANN COX, Richard was a plasterer.

Anyone know of these people?

Cheers
Geoff

Hi Victor,

Well, that is strange, a family tale said they came from Dursley, Gloucestershire, but I can see where this could be a mix-up.  Thanks for the warning I'll check it all out again and see what I can find.

Regards
Geoff

Hi Victor,

First, I thank you for bringing this to my attention.
However the family you found are not mine.
What I had there is correct, both Thomas & Harriett are from GLS.
Harriett & Thomas were both born in Dursley.
A few months after filling out the 1851 Census Thomas died, Harriet remarried to widower William GIBBS and his 3 year old son.  He was also a miner and living in the same area, William was born in Thornbury in the year 1808/9 according to the '51 Census. In 1858 they left Wales and sailed to New South Wales, Australia, where they settled in Newcastle.

Cheers
Geoff
