Would anyone be able to do a look up in Sligo Cemetery - Old Section?  I am interested in any graves with the names Cherry or Lawrence. I am looking for a Stephen M Cherry who married Isabella Lawrence on 18th March1857.

There may not be a headstone- have you tried contacting the cemetery or the council?

Stephen Moore Cherry, son of Matthew, married Isabella Lawrence, daughter of John-

Possible death for Isabella (1865)?
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FRGP-GM6

There's a marriage record for a Stephen Moore Cherry & Eliza Ann Maxwell/Jackson in Sligo (1873)- bride quite possibly a widow so perhaps a 2nd marriage for your Stephen (in which case Isabella could be buried with Lawrence family and Stephen with 2nd wife).

The above couple had a daughter Ellen in 1873 (mother Eliza Ann Jackson), Annie Elizabeth (1876) & another daughter in 1878.

This Stephen Moore Cherry died in 1890-

Amazing what Google will find- have you seen this (contact details for more information listed but 1st link is broken)

Thank you both.

As Aghadowey says it is amazing what you find on Google. I found out this morning that Stephen M Cherry was Mayor of Sligo in 1881. There are also a few other things of interest to follow up!

I thought Stephen Cherry had been married twice and the headstone confirms this. His family came from Myroe, near Limavady in Co. Derry and his sister Margaret Cherry married a John Lawrence. It looks as though John Lawrence and Stephen's first wife Isabella may have been brother and sister. John Lawrence's residence when he married was  Ballymote but I have a feeling that, like the Cherrys he may be from Co. Derry.

Thank you so much my luck! The middle name of Hedley for two of the children must come from the Lawrence side. The name Douglas comes down through several families that are linked to the Cherrys.

Yes,  Mary belongs to this family and is wife of Matthew Cherry b 1801 d 1870, Broighter, near Limavady. I have come to the conclusion that Mary's marriage to Matthew Cherry was her second marriage. PRONI wills index for Catherine Holmes d 13 Oct 1858.

I think Mary may have married a James Holmes of Broighter who died 28th May aged 51 and had a number of children to him and then had five children to Matthew. Stephen M. Cherry being one of those children.

Many thanks to you both.
