William Thorney born c1790 in Walford, Herefordshire

I am trying to find the baptism for said William to enable me to go back further.

according to the 1841 census he was born about 1790 in Walford Herefordshire.

There are some other baptisms of similar time on the forest of dean website in which the parents are John Thorney and Ann, these seem to be the only Thorney family in that area around that time. Do you think it is likely John and Ann are my Williams' parents?

I live in Canada, so it is hard for me to get access to baptism records for that area.

Hiya Shevy...the only babtism I can find in Herefordshire from 1785 to 1795 is
William Thorney
babtised 6th May 1792
Lugwardine
Herefordshire
William and Ann Thorney are the parents....an extracted record....
although babtised in 1792 , it doesn`t necessarily mean he was born in 1792....he could have been babtised when he was 2.....let me see how far Lugwardine is from Walford....allan

Ok ...Walford to Lugwardine is 20 miles....
it is possible that William Thorney was born in Walford and babtised in Lugwardine if one of the parents was from Lugwardine and wanted the babtism in their family church....or ...if William the father was a farm labourer he may have moved to Lugwardine with his job....what was Williams occupation in 1841 ? and who is he with ?.....allan

Hi and thank you for your reply. That could well be his baptism. I am assuming he was born in Walford, but it could well of been Lugwardine. I know he is in Walford in 1841 and the majority of the Thorney family were from Walford, although eventually I assume they will of come from somewhere else.

In 1841 he is living in Sharman Lane, Walford with his wife Mary and several children. He is mistranscribed as Thomey on ancestry.

His occupation was a Farmer.

His age is 45 in 1841 which would make him born about 1796.

But I believe I have found his burial on the forest of dean website, which lists him as dying in 1847 in Walford aged 56 which would make him born about 1791.

The 1841 census was rounded down to within 5 years for births - so - a 1791 birth is very possible

Still stuck with progressing on this line, I have the baptism in lugwardine, but need to ensure it is him and haven't been able to search back any further on that line if it is him.
