Frederick Cassidy aka Cassidey (dob 1884 circa)
« on: Wednesday 24 July 13 02:59 BST (UK) »
In the 1891 Scotland Census:  The household of Joseph Cassidy aka Cassidey (Cassidy is correct), shows one of the children as being Frederick "Cassidey" (correct spelling is definitely "Cassidy") aged 7yrs.  His parents were Joseph Cassidy and Hannah Bell Cassidy nee Warren and his dob would be circa 1884.  (He is not shown in the 1881 England census, where the family was then located before moving to Scotland; so could have been born in England - Sunderland District OR Scotland in Bo'ness).  I cannot find any record of his birth, marriage or death.  There is a possibility he may have been killed in WWI, but I am not sure of that.  Can anybody help with look ups for BMD or Military records please?

No I haven't.  It is close and could be him.  Do you know how I could get more details, e.g. parents, to help confirm?

Hi Bob,

I have found a casualty in the First World War, Fred William Cassidy, he had a birthplace of Sunderland, enlisted to Royal Scots 2nd Battalion in Glasgow. He apparently died of wounds in France & Flanders on 19 April 1917. His regimental number was 34917.

Could this be your man?

Thanks to both of you!  Everything fits from age etc.  Frederick's father was Joseph Cassidy who moved from Sunderland to Bo'ness and Glasgow; so I am almost convinced it is him.  The birth reference BMD looks correct also.  Can you suggest how I might attempt to link Joseph Cassidy (his father) to the address shown on the CWG Certificate: Son of Mr. J. Cassidy, of 8, Grange Terrace, Springburn, Glasgow?
