Found Annie (Mathie) Torrance with her son in law Henry Kennedy in 1911.

Henry is a brother of Patrick Kennedy who married Jane Torrance.

here are the family in the 1871 census John not there they are at Main Street McLaughlins Land

James Torrance b 1837 Ireland Brother in Law ...Mechanic at sugar works

Not being able to access the original, I have to assume that James was a visitor. There was, as far as I know, no sugar refinery in Old Kilpatrick, and the industry in Glasgow was all but finished, leaving Greenock and Port Glasgow the locations for his work. So, he would have lived there too, and I wonder if he is connected to these Greenock sugar labourers ...

TORRANCE   Andrew   of Scotland   (age 19) (labourer)   (1 Broomhill Rd)   Greenock   1901 census 564/2/46/114
TORRANCE   John   of Ireland   (age 36) (labourer)   (1 Broomhill St)   Greenock   1891 census 564/2/46/100
TORRANCE   John   of Scotland   (age 16) (labourer)   (1 Broomhill Rd)   Greenock   1901 census 564/2/46/114
TORRANCE   John   of Ireland   (age 50) (labourer)   (1 Broomhill Rd)   Greenock   1901 census 564/2/46/114
TORRENS      John   of Ireland   (age 28) (lab)   (3 Broomhill St)   Greenock   1881   census CD

May be of help.

Think the James Torrance born 1870 he is not there on the 1881 census I match for a death comes up on Scotlandspeople 1871-1872 in Old Kilpatrick ..Also the first Jessie b 1866 1 match for a death 1872-1872 ...Also the Jessie b 1880 there is 1 match 1883-1884 also in Old Kilpatrick but that would need to be checked out to make sure these are the right people  :)
