It would depend on which church he belonged to. Trinity College in Glasgow turned out Free Church ministers. The "Fasti" of the Church of Scotland has the details of their ministers. You might get this online?

Bit of luck  :) William Sutherland's obituary from the Glasgow Herald:

Added: Booo  :'( Not so lucky! Very close, but 10 years too young and showing as unmarried. Just very similar background though.

OK, trying again...

Another obituary from the same source. Also a William Sutherland, Minister from Caithness, who died in 1937. Mention of a wife and 3 children.

Do you have a death date for the William Sutherland you are researching? If so, have you viewed his death cert?

Thanks Ev  :) I thought I was dreaming as I had seen the other post, but thought it would come under firthview's which I then couldn't find.

As Anne mentions on the other post, the first stop for now to try and find a marriage entry for William Sutherland's first marriage would be his death cert which we now know was in 1937 in Glasgow City (there is a corresponding entry on SP I think for this).

Thanks VERY MUCH everyone, particularly Monica L for finding the newspaper obit.  - hopefully now I can find the death on SP, and perhaps his first wife through that. Thanks also very much to FIRTHVIEW, my friend, for putting this into the Caithness section; I'm very 'green' to rootschat, and don't really know what I'm doing eg someone pointed out elsewhere in rootschat that the 1911 census said he was a United Reform minister, when I thought it had said free church - I'm clearly hopeless at deciphering the old writing too!!
Anyway, thanks very much to all you genealogical supersleuths out there, I really appreciate the help
