Here is his death certificate.  Looks like he was cremated... see Royal Oak Crematorium

Doing the free search on Ancestry (I don't have a current subscription, so I can't see the actual record), there is a naturalization record for James in Seattle, 1935. 

Don't see him there on the 1940 census though.  According to the obit from the Forestry magazine, he came back to BC in 1942, so he ought to be somewhere in Washington on the US census in 1940 ??? ???

Here is the actual forestry newsletter with his obituary.  What I posted earlier was not the original source.  If you are going to make a memorial, you might want the original source.  The obit is on page 5.
