George Thomas Daniels
« on: Monday 08 December 14 12:09 GMT (UK) »
I have recently discovered that my Gradfather's eldest brother emigrated to Canada in 1907. George Thomas Daniels was born in Edmonton, Middlesex, England in 1875. He married Bessie Sword in 1897, also in Edmonton, Middlesex, England. Bessie was born in Blackfriars c1875. In 1901, he was living in Wood Green, Middlesex, England with Bessie and their two children: George Thomas and William. I now know that he emigrated to Canada in July 1907, sailing from Liverpool on the Dominion to Quebec. It would appear that they had two more children before emigrating, Bessie and Ellen Maud, and two more after settling in Ontario, Alfred and Mary. I have found a 1911 Canadian census reference for the family in the East Districts 13-49 of Toronto, Ontario, which only lists Bessie and the six children. Does this imply that George has died? Or was he just absent from the family home? I cannot find any death certificated for either George or Bessie. I do not fully understand the Canadian record system and would be grateful for any help in finding the deaths of my two relatives, George and Bessie.

Hello
Well he's not dead as the family are altogether at 2 Busy St Toronto in 1921.
He is a bricklayer .indexed as George S Daniels aged 46 arrived 1907.

Deaths in Toronto are only available to the public up to 1937 and after that you have to apply direct. They are very keen on privacy and you do have to prove you are related and have a good reason for buying the certificate.

There is a Bessie Daniels on the Electoral register up to 1958 at York Ontario which could be her. With her is a George Daniels retired.
In 1963 the same man seems to be at 213 Woodville Avenue with Mr William and Mrs Mary Bennett.

Does that help?

That helps a lot, thanks very much.

Any idea who I contact to try and trace his death and possibly get a certificate?

Many thanks. This is all useful and unknown material.

I followed the link for Ancestry for the 1921 Canadian census. Unfortunately it is not free, I was asked to upgrade my British account to Worldwide to view the document.

I'm not sure I want to do this for just one document!

Yes - I found a record on Familysearch for the death of Bessie Blyth aged 24, which states that her parents were George Thomas Daniels and Bessie Sword. So that is the right family.

I'm still trying to find a way of discovering the deaths of both George Thomas and Bessie.

I think I will need to re-think now that I have found the Canada connection.
