Need a little help      I am looking at the birth of a Sybil Bardell born 1890 mothers name given as Simpson reg staffordshire.

Also A Mary Florance Bardell b 1877 mothers name Simpson in staffordshire.

What I cant find is a possible marriage of a bardell and a simpson ?

Possible marriage Mary bardell to Isaac simpson September quart 1843 in wolstanton on freebmd but possible combination which requires checking and is too early for the generation you are after.

Freebmd the Sybil mentioned in 1890 sep quart states stoke on trent reg district.but the 1877 registration is not coming up under the surname bardell on freebmd.

This doesn't answer your question I'm afraid -- but just in case you don't know -- a Mary Florence Bardell, born abt 1877 died in Q/E Sept 1877, Stoke upon Trent Reg District -- hence she won't be found on a subsequent census (unless, of course, there were 2 of them!).

It's always possible that the mother may have married twice - in which case 'Simpson' will still be her maiden name -- but the record of the marriage will be in her previous married name.

I haven't looked for a marriage - I was trying to find Mary Florence on the 1881 census with her parents -- when I discovered she had died.

On the 1891 census the parents of Sybil are a Thomas Bardell (aged 40) and Hannah. (aged 38)

There are other children present -- Sarah B aged 12 and Olive aged 10.

If these 2 belong to both Thomas and Hannah -- then the marriage occurred before 1878 ish.

(There is a mother in law present named Sarah Turner aged 58.

The mother in law may also have remarried! (Just to complicate things)

There is also a marriage Q/E Dec 1876 West Bromwich Reg Dist. of a Thomas Bardell. On the same page is an Hannah Higgins!

If you obtained the birth certificate of Sybil -- it should give the mother's maiden name and any previous married name (if there was one).

This is why i am confused Thomas Bardell married Annie Williams they are the gg grandparents of my husband.

As you say on the 1891 census  they have olive b 1880 g grandmother
also Sarah b bardell b 1879     and sybil b 1890    and mother in law name Turner.

How can the mother in law be Turner when annie was a williams?
Looking at the three girls births they state mother name williams except Sybil mother name simpson.


Also in the search i found thomas and Hannah had

Annie 1873 - 1880 died age 7
elizabeth 1883-1883
frances mary 1884-1884
rhoda 1886-1886
lillie 1889-1889

So sad, just cant understand syble on the census or mother in law turner

That would go with the marriage in 1872 ish,  How old is the 1911 saying sybil is are they still calling her daughter ? does it also say how many children they had and how many died

Its possible she was born after they lost all the children just dont understand why the only birth i can find says mother name simpson
