Part 2:
The marriage entries for Edmunds at Llanelly from 1814/1815 onwards are below:
Charles Edmund to Mary David 30/12/1814
Charles was born around 1796
There is no obvious connection to William Edmund from the marriage entry, However (see below)
Charles was a bachelor and Mary a spinster both from Llanelly.
Neither Charles or Mary signed fully (just put “X”).
Witnesses were Isaac Griffiths and John William
In the 1841 census there were only 2 Charles Edmunds in Carmarthenshire Charles Edmund age 40 (and a Mary) a Farmer of Crossant Hill, Glyn Hamlet and Charles Edmund age 25 (and a Margaret) a Copperman, living at the Copper Works, Llanelly, so we can discount the later Charles as he was maaried to a Margaret..
Charles Edmund of Crossant Hill in 1841 was listed as age 40, living with Mary (60), Anne (20) and Margaret (15). Despite the age difference it looks like they were married, as they are both listed as parents of Ann and Margaret (both baptized 25 May 1824 at St.Eli), the abode is also given as Crossant Hill on the baptism entries (where Charles is listed as Collier rather than Farmer). The marriage that corresponds is the above in 1814 (however if Charles was 40 in 1841 he would only been 13 if married in 1814, but as the ages in the census of 1841 were rounded he could have been as old as 44 then this would fit, plus in the “File of Rebecca Papers” from 1843 he is listed as even older “Chas. Edmund---Cressant aged 50”).
Charles of Crossant was specifically mentioned as a main participant in the Rebecca papers (“Charles Edmund of Crossant”, “Charles Edmund not disguised except his coal black face”, Charles of Crossant (watched with Evan on the road)”.
As Charles was living in Glyn Hamlet at Crossant, and next to Herberdeg farm in 1841 there must be some relationship to Margaret (and William) Edmunds, whether he was a son from William’s first marriage to Jane Harvey though is unclear as he was born around 1796 the year William and Jane married. Plus he did not sign his marriage entry unlike the other known sons.
I can’t obviously find Charles or Mary in 1851.
Mary Edmund to John William 15/05/1815
Looks like a daughter of William and Jane Harvey as William Edmund was a witness and his signature on this marriage entry corresponds to his signature on his marriage entries.
Mary would have been born around 1797 (if 18 in 1815) which would make her the first child of William Edmund and Jane Harvey (who married in 1814).
Mary was spinster and John a batchelor
Mary signed “X”, John did a full signature
Witnesses were William Thomas and William Edmund
(Note 1: A William Thomas was also a Witness to William Edmund’s marriage to Jane Harvey but the signatures on the 2 documents look different).
(Note 2: A John William witnessed the marriage of Charles Edmund to Mary David, but the signature looks different from that of the above John William).
Anne Edmund to John Evan 23/03/1818
Anne was born around ?
There is no obvious connection to William Edmund.
Anne was a Spinster and John was a batchelor
Anne signed “X”, John did a full signature
Witnesses were Owen Griffiths and David Thomas
Henry Edmund to Frances Hugh 26/02/1822
Henry was born around 1801
Considered unlikely as in later census entries Henry has his birth place as Pembrey and he continued to live in Pembrey.
William Edmund to Jane Bassett 16/04/1827
William was born around 1808
This is the known son, William of Herberdeg farm
Doesn’t state if they were bachelor and spinster
William signed, Jane put an “X”
Witnesses were John Hugh and Thomas Richards. The signature for John Hugh was the same as that for the John Hugh who witnessed William (Senior) first marriage to Jane Harvey.
Elizabeth Edmund to Thomas Morris 25/11/1829
Elizabeth was born around 1812-1816
Looks to be a daughter of William and Margaret Edmund
Elizabeth was listed as living with Margaret Edmund at Herberdeg farm in 1841
Doesn’t state if they were bachelor and spinster
Elizabeth signed “X”, Thomas signed “X”
Witnesses were Richard Edmund and Jno Roberts. The signature of Richard Edmund corresponds to the signature of Richard Edmund of Caerbigyn farm (therefore her brother, who was 18 in 1829.
Thomas Morris was a main figure in the Rebecca riots.
I can find no obvious trace of Elizabeth, Thomas or their children in the 1851 census.
