Hello again. I am in need of some more help please. This is John Alexander's Christening. Can you help me make out all it says.
Lockhart, MacDonald, Guerin, Evans, Johnston

Bap: John Lawll son to Robert and Bessy Alexanders
witnesses [            ] and William Alexanders & c.

Lawll = lawful (i.e. legitimate)
Alexanders - when two or more people with the same surname are mentioned together, the surname is made plural
The space [     ] contains another Christian name.

So your saying the mothers name would have been Alexander as well? If this is the case then this cannot be my record as the mother is a Douglas. I thought it was showing the baby presented as Mr and Mrs Alexander.

In Scottish records, a married woman is normally given her maiden name. It may be that the writer of this register did not follow the usual practice. To check this, look at the other entries on the page. If they follow the same pattern as your entry, then Douglas is fine.

What I think I am seeing is at the top the titles are going Mr and Mrs Surname but farther down I can see where it looks like it is changed to Mr Surname and Mrs Surname? Anyone want to see the whole document and give me their opinion. This is literally the last piece of my puzzle. Pm me if interested.
