Rees son 10 b. Gelligaer
Ruth dau 6 b. Gelligaer
David Charles son 4 b. Gelligaer

I'd had a quick look for Thomas  and didn't see anyone obvious, but the farm next to Mardy in 1871 has an interesting entry

Ysgwyddgwyn ishaf farm RG10/5369 folio 17 pg 29
Margaret Morgan head wid 74 farmer 120 acres b. Bedwellty
Edward son 34 employed on the farm b. Gelligaer
Martha Daniel dau mar 47 b. Gelligaer
David Daniel son-in-law 40 boarding b. Breconshire
Thomas Morgan servant 29 farm servant b. Gelligaer
Margaret Llewellyn serv 18 general servant b. Gelligaer
Griffith Williams visitor 65 bolster maker b. Llanfabon

I'll have another look around for Thomas. At the mo, he doesn't look to be directly related to the Morgan family he's working for, but....

getting somewhere now!

1851 Trod hiw jestin (? sorry can't make sense of farm name, but it's next to Brithdir isa)  HO107/2457  folio 241 pg 8
John Morgans head mar 47 farmer 67 acres 1 lab
Frances wife 34
Thomas son 9
John son 8
William son 7
Rachel dau 5
Sara dau 4
Francis son 9 months
John Jones servant 23 farm lab
Amelia Morgans dau 2
Jane Jones serv 20 housemaid
all born Glamorgan, apart from Frances who is born Pembrokeshire.

I had a look for for John & Frances on a later census to get more specific places of birth. Found them in 1881 - at Gwernllwyna!  And the Saunders family is on the same page at Mardy. RG11/5308 folio 46A pg 40.
Frances' place of birth is given as Cilgerran.

Hi Osprey

Troed Rhiw Jestyn is the name of the farm, was one of the old Gelligaer parish farms, along with all others mentioned, neighbouring mountain farms along the Cefn Brithdir Mountain ridge bordering Deri, Fochrhiw and Rhymney areas of the Rhymney Valley in the 1700/1800s period.

Cheers, Roy

Hello Osprey
Many thanks for your time and effort, your help is always gratefully received and appreciated.  How I wish I could be as usefull as you guys on this site, however I do try and on this occasion by researching someone born in Brithdir, who left when aged 7 years when his father, the village station master, relocated the family to Usk in Gwent when he was appointed the Station Master there, I have with your help managed to help this persons son learn of his mothers side of the family [Morgans].  I know when I send him the information later he is going to be very happy and on his behalf I would like to thank you also.

Best Regards
Roy
