Missing DILKS ?
« on: Tuesday 01 April 14 18:29 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Please can anyone assist with a Marriage of Arthur DILKS, Tailor.

His birth was registered in the Dec Qtr of 1873 in the Nottingham R.D.

In 1901 he is living with his mother, Eliza DILKS, who is also shown as a tailor.

It seems as if he died in in the Nottingham R.D. in the Dec Qtr of 1954.
He does not seem to have left a Will.

I cannot ID him in the 1911 Census, nor WW1 enlistments.

Can anyone assist ?

Regards
JonJon

The free 1911 index has an Arthur Dilks living in Notts aged 37.  Have you viewed that entry as Rootschat does not allow 1911 info to be posted due to copyright issues

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

The part entry is also on FS

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XWS6-KWR

Freebmd has 3 Arthur Dilks marriages in Notts between 1901-1911

This marriage looks possible:

(I think James Glew and Kate Howard probably married each other).

Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)

Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

Hi,

Thank you all for your input.

Unfortunately, I still can not find Arthur in the 1911 Census using Ancestry.
So either his return has been missed entirely, or it is very very badly transcribed.

Also, in case it helps with a possible marriage; Arthur's father was Herbert Freeman DILKS.

Regards
JonJon

Hi sgf28

Thank You.  Now to find the missing spouse etc.

May need to purchase the birth certificate for daughter Marjorie Clara DILKS.

My first thought was that he was the 1905 marriage to either Sarah Ann Meakin or Mary Alice Topham

However - the other male name on the same page was Charles Henry Turner who appears to have married Mary Alice Topham - which left Sarah Ann as the remaining spouse

But - Sarah Ann appears to be the spouse of Arthur Henry Dilks so I agree - you need Marjories birth cert

Hi,

Yesterday I assumed  Arthur DILKS married Edith Mabel MACHEN March Qtr 1907;
and searched the 1911 census on Ancestry for Edith Mabel with surname blank.

I got a hit indexed DECH and viewed the image which I am sure reads DILKS.

Edith Mabel DILKS died leaving a Will in 1964.
The Probate Calendar shows Probate granted to a Dennis DILKS; lorry driver.

I think this will be the fellow born June Qtr 1930 Nottingham 7b 738 Mother DILKS.
Possibly a son of Marjorie Clara DILKS.

Regards to all
