My Great GrandFather and Mother Hugh and Helen (McColgan) Smith were the parents of Thomas Smith. I am descended from Jane (Jeanie Smith).
I have a family tree on Ancestry.co.uk which goes back to their Grandparents.
In the image are Helen and Hugh with children Sarah, Mary Anne and Helen. Taken about 1891

Hi- I come from the Daly/Boyle family who I know lived in Duntocher around 1866 when my great grandmother was born there. I am also interested in any info. about the Roman Catholic community of Duntocher around that time. thanks.

Hi Moren,  The Village Tavern in the Main Street in Duntocher was once owned by Filshies,   I'm  sure they were a farming family. Its changed quite a bit since then.   It is now owned by Tommy Cunningham... drummer from the group Wet Wet Wet.

Thank you very much for the reply.
That would mean it was owned by my ancestor prior to the Filshie family.

What I would really like is to find the history of that building.
I know there are people who specialise in finding the history of buildings, has anyone ever used them?

Hi again,   I think the west end (Filshies) or village tavern as its called now was one a continuation of a row of houses, they were known as 'Brenner's Land'.  They stretched along the Main Street from Auchentoshan Avenue on one side to Morrison Street on the other.  If you google Village tavern Duntocher it will give you a better idea of what it looks like.  You could also try Clydebank Library 01415602440...or Dumbarton library 01389608992.  I'm sure they will point you in the right direction.   Myyran x
