Stapley Waller Shillington help
« on: Monday 17 February 14 10:55 GMT (UK) »

Hi

I am either having an off day or something isn't adding up but please could anyone help with finding the spouse of Arthur George Stapley Waller (b.1871) in Shillington.

No luck on ancestry or freesearch.

Family knowledge suggests it was a Wilhelmina and that she was a 'ladies companion'.

I am really hoping to be able to look into the family recollections that she was a ladies companion and travelled certainly around Europe and possibly further afield.  As the family lived in Shillington we think it could have been a lady from one of the wealthy landowner families around either Hexton or Pirton, but this is just hypothetical..

Thanks

Thank you - have made massive inroads and linked up with living relatives already!

No luck on the 'Ladies Companion' yet though!

Hi

I think that this could be her in 1901 calling herself 'Emily'

Oakdene, Denmark Road, Carshalton  RG13/579 f93 p14
Annie Grinstead    80  Living On Own Means born London
Ada Lucas Dtr 38 bn Isle of Wight
Louise Wallis Svt 22 bn Holloway, London
Emily Harrod Servant Single 27 bn Battersea
Beatrice Whatmore   Svt   17 bn Poplar

In 1891 she is called Emily, also a servant bn Battersea

In 1881 there is no evidence of Emily Harrod born Battersea but there is a Wilhelmina M. with her parents  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XQZ6-GMF     :-\

Was this when she was still single

Unfortunately no details of when in her life she did this although it has come to light that her older sister Martha was cook to a Lord & Lady Brownlow in Ashridge House, Berkhamsted and then for Lady Dashwood in Suffolk, so therefore being around these households her sister could have heard of a vacancy somewhere and got her in.

Sometimes these big estates have 'employee records'  it might be worth you seeing if you can find them for the places her sister worked in case she is mentioned
