Anderson, William Maxwell: looking for his parents and siblings
« on: Saturday 02 March 13 06:59 GMT (UK) »
William and Mary (nee Wylie), my great grandparents, were married on 23 Oct 1885 at 2 McDougall St Greenock. Both parents were deceased. William's father was John Anderson, occupation Pilot and his mother was Elizabeth (nee Malloy); I have found possible matches in the 1861 and 1871 censuses but the occupation of the head of the household in each case doesn't match. William died in 1928 and his father's occupation is again shown as Pilot (the informant was his daughter Elizabeth, who possibly got that from their marriage certificate - although her mother Mary was still alive - in fact Mary lived until 1954.) Any clues or pointers would be much appreciated.  :)

Thanks to all: blown away by the quick response... will get back to you soon. These were not the ones I found on census - obviously the Anderson name and the given names are very common. The ones you have supplied are much more likely to bear fruit: the occupation is the key I guess and I'm still very much an amateur! Cheers and thanks once again

Thanks Elaine  :) for the link to Inverclyde BMD - what a great resource! I have a lot to learn about where the various shires fit together, but am greatly encouraged now.  Cheers Helenjean
