I am amazed at what you have managed to dredge up in so short a time Sandra. Many thanks.
Maybe somewhere among all these Haighs and Marsdens I might find someone who knows the true story of Peter Stavers. I suspect that the only one of the Haigh children who is possibly a blood relative of mine is the youngest George Staver/Stavers/Haigh 1851 who may well be one of the reasons for Peter and Mary leaving England to go and set up house on the other side of the world.

Thanks again. The information on James E Haigh might help me to track down a baptism and find out more about Mary´s marriage to Mr. Haigh, whoever he was. The immigration dates of 1853 or 1855 also fit with my theory. They were all in the US by 1855 and Peter Stavers was facing a 6 month jail sentence in the UK in 1854.

Sarah Hay ties in further to the Haigh family as she was the daughter of Sarah Haigh and James Hay who where on the 1851 census in Newcastle with Mary Haigh and family

Sarah Hay married on 30 Dec 1882 in Rutland, Vermont, USA to Fred A Dupaw. She is listed as born 1862 in Schenectady with parents James F Hay and Sarah Haight

Kay

Both Sarah Hay and her daughter Mary Isabella Hay are listed as buried in the same grave in the Vale Cemetery in Schenectady

Hi,

Peter Hays mentioned in the Obituary was probably the brother of Sarah Hays. Peter born in Schenectady, New York 5 th july 1868 Died 23 rd April 1943 in Buffalo, Erie, New York.
