Mauritius: cemetery and civil registration records ?
« on: Wednesday 04 March 09 16:50 GMT (UK) »
My great-great-uncle, serving in the 88th Connaught Rangers, died in 1879 in Port Louis, Mauritius, according to his army records.

I doubt there would be a gravestone, but you never know unless you ask. I have searched and searched but cannot find anywhere in that area to contact, just in case there is a record of his burial.

Well, twice I have sent an email, in which I requested acknowledge receipt; they were acknowledged each time with

and send an international postal order for £3.

Joy, If you haven't sent the letter maybe it would shake thigs up a bit if you registered the letter or whatever is required to get a signature upon its delivery.
I had trouble with the Uk Home Office not replyingto 3 communications- I got fed up with that and then i sent a registered letter and they replied that day.
Bit of accountability does wonders ;D

Hi Joy

I too have been emailing the civstat people in Mauritius and have also been ignored!

Would be very interested to hear whether your letter was any more successful.
