Strange James Thomas
« on: Monday 11 August 14 05:28 BST (UK) »
Hi  there

I  have my  fraternal ggf  James Thomes Strange on  the 1911 Census at Swindon Wiltshire, he  was born 1848c at Abingdon, Berkshire.  He  is living with  his wife Mary nee Pullen.

How  would  I  go about  finding his  and her  death  please

thanks  Jenn

Have you tried searching FreeBMD?   http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

With the middle intial T and last living in Swindon he should be easier to find although there may be more options for Mary

As Kay said, Freebmd have deaths on the link she provided. Freebmd deaths are also on Ancestry and go up to 1915 - and then there are deaths from 1916 to 2007.

Do you have access to Ancestry or one of the other pay sites?

I tried a search with a birth year of 1848 +/- 10 years, and even then there aren't many results. This one stands out due to place of death and as the only one with middle intial T, (though sometimes middle initials weren't included):

James T Strange
b abt 1849
d Jun 1918
Swindon Wiltshire

I take it you know how to order the d/c? If not, just give a shout and I will run you through it.  :)

PS, Do you mean 'paternal ggrandfather Jenn, as in on your father's side of the family? :-\

Both deaths are relatively easy to find on FreeBMD - just use Swindon as a place name, and take note of the ages at death! ;D

I, too, wondered about "fraternal ggf"?! ;D
Something between maternal and paternal?  ;)

First off apologies  don't know why I  typed fraternal  not paternal,   senior moment perhaps
we all do have them ;D

I  have Ancestry but  for some reason  not showing deaths after 1916

Will  check  out  the links  provided

Many thanks  to you all  for your  input

A further  Question if I  might,  are  there any  newspaper records on  line  that might  show a  funeral  or death notice?

regards Jenn

Jenn, on Ancestry did you go to the UK deaths 1916 - 2007 section? I found it via those records.

Are you going to order the d/c? Presumably you already know that it's easiest to order via the GRO with a credit card?  :) You will need the page and volume numbers to order.

Good luck.  ;D

You could try The British Newspaper Archive, they may have papers for Swindon on line already and are adding more at very regular intervals.
