Parish Records for Thurning, Northamptonshire.
« on: Thursday 04 September 14 19:35 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am helping my godmother with her family history & have found a single baptism for an ancestor in Thurning, but would appreciate any further details of this baptism or any others to the parents & a marriage if possible.

Ann Pears to parents Luke & Ann Pears on 1st December 1813 at Thurning, Northants.

We know from Ann's marriage to Thomas Abbney in Cardington, Bedfordshire in 1840 that her father Luke was a blacksmith.

This baptism is literally the only one for Luke & Ann that shows up on familysearch. No marriage can be found at all.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Hi David ...

I can confirm that there's no sign of Luke and Ann's marriage on the Northamptonshire Marriage Index (1700-1837).  I checked PEARS(E), PEERS and PIERCE.

Checking the location of Thurning on a map, I would say that the parish is quite close to the county boundary with Cambridgeshire - perhaps that is where you should continue your search?

Name: Will'M PEERS
Gender:    Male
Baptism Date:    29 Jul 1821
Baptism Place:    Thurning, Northampton, England
Father:    Luke Peers
Mother:    Jane Peers
William Married a Sarah, possible either GEE or SHORT, Dec 1848, Oundle, 15 709

So we have;
LUKE 1816
MICHAEL 1818
WILLIAM 1821
To me it is likely Ann 1813 is their Daughter also, and Mothers name is wrong on Christening, unless Luke was married twice.
His Parents I would say are MICHAEL/ANN, given that he names 2nd Son Michael and a Daughter Ann.

Hi Pennie & trish1120,

Many thanks for your replies, very much appreciated indeed.

Pennie, many thanks for checking for the marriage, much appreciated, Yep, Thurning is also close to the Huntingdonshire border as well, so I shall check both counties!

Trish1120, Wow! What can I say! Fantastic, many many thanks indeed! I had spotted Luke Pears/Peers on the 1841 & was aware of the possibility of Michael being a brother as well, but hadn't been able to prove it. I wasn't aware of William tho! Many thanks indeed for other baptism & Census info. Need to go digest all this now! ;D

My thanks to you both again.

Kind regards

David

Hi again,

Right, it seems that I am going to have concentrate on the Great Gidding area as Michael & Ann Pears (parents of Luke) had 10 children between 1771 & 1790. They were all baptised in Great Gidding under the surname variations of Pearce/Pearse/Pears & Peers, I also checked under Piers & Pierce as well!

So any marriage for Michael & Ann would I imagine be somewhere around c1770. I haven't found one as yet, but I shall keep looking.

I am now aware that Thurning & Great Gidding are only about 3 to 5 miles apart, also until 1880 Thurning had been a part of Huntingdonshire.

My thanks for all the help once again, it is very much appreciated indeed.

Kind regards

David
