It looks like there are two Thomas Botham's in Brampton around at the same time.

There is a baptism for a Thomas 6.11. 1774 to William Botham but he was buried 20.7. 1847 aged 73 abode Berley.

The Thomas who was buried 10.7. 1849 was aged 69 and abode Loads.

Just to confuse things more it looks like both Thomas's married a Mary

Hi,

Not sure what you have, but this is Thomas in 1841 Census:-

HO107/193; Book: 18; Page: 37; Line: 25; Civil Parish: Brampton.

Living at Upper Loads, with I assume his son Thomas, DIL Mary, G.Dau  Elin aged 3 months
and a Keziah Botham aged 25 who is the daughter of Thomas Snr.

No wife is listed for Thomas Snr., so assume she pre deceased him.

Possible burial of a Mary Botham 8th Feb 1837 aged 51 so born abt 1786.

But the other Thomas (abode Berley) also appears to be a widow in 1841 Census.

Can you confirm how you know that it was Mary Hopkinson who was the wife and
not Mary Tagg.

Hi Teneke,
I have just been looking at my Old Brampton C.D. and I think that the Thomas & Mary Botham that you are researching lived at 'Loads' not Birley.  The Thomas's could have been cousins and it doesn't help with both of them getting married to a Mary.  I think that you are correct in his marriage to Mary Hopkinson on 4-10-1803.  Mary was not baptised at Old Brampton but there are several  listed at Ashover in the 1780's, one of these could be her.  Mary was buried at Old Brampton on the 22-2-1837 aged 51 years living at 'Loads'.  Thomas was baptised on 31-12-1780 at Old Brampton his father being Thomas Botham.  He was buried on 10-7-1849 aged 69 yrs living at 'Loads'  which is where he was on the 1841 census living with his son William.  I have a list of Thomas & Mary's children if you want it.  Best wishes.
