given what I have read, this family looks like it has been affected not only by mental illness, but the affects of cholera which was a high cause of death in this part of Lancashire caused by bad sewerage and disease in the water. The high infant deaths are often caused this way in research I have undertook for members of my mothers lineage for the general area which has been discussed....
other diseases were rampant in Lancashire during this period..... so please consider this in your research........
