Herne / Hyrne family of Haveringland
« on: Monday 17 March 14 11:59 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find more details on Thomas Herne or Hyrne of Haveringland Hall, Norfolk & his wife Charlotte Paston (who mar. 2nd., a Major (Thomas?) Weldron). The details I have are either Thomas or Charlotte was died and was buried there 30 Oct. & 1 Nov. 1736. Not sure which one?? Thomas was born at Haveringland in 1667. They marr. I think at Quidenham, Norfolk (the seat of Charlotte's family) on 12 June 1703.

They had Harboard (bap. & bur. 1705), Thomas (bap. 1707), William (bap. 1708), Hannover (bap. 1712), all at Haveringland. However I think they had at least another 2 children, if not more, Paston Herne, who inherited, but died only leaving an illegitimate heiress Ann Herne; and Mary Paston Herne (b. 1703?) who I think marr in London 11 Oct 1722 , a Richard Smith.

I can find no details on Thomas or Charlotte's actual deaths, or Charlotte's 2nd marriage. Also nothing on Paston Herne, his sister Mary Paston Herne, or any of their siblings apart from the above.

Any more details on them would be much appreciated.

There is a marriage bond issued 5 March 1732 for Thomas Weldon bachelor of St Jacobi Westminster Middlesex I think this is now St James and the Right Honorable Charlott Hern, widow.
They would have been married shortly afterwards.
Directory of London 1734 lists Major Thomas Weldon of St Mary's London

The Norfolk Record Office in Martineau Lane Norwich has documents re the Herne and Paston families.
If you use the search NORCAT, for the name Paston there is Yarmouth Letters ref BL/Y that give the heritage of the Paston family this is where Charlotte's marriage to Thomas Herne is listed as 12 June 1703, and the name of all her father William's children. There is also reference to Indentures and lease agreements  1731 between Paston Herne son and heir to Thomas Esq. deceased and Charlott Herne, widow of Thomas. Ref MS 7735-7736 19C1
The staff are knowledgeable and can direct your search.
Burke's Commoners lists William Paston 1652- 25 December 1732 as a Cambridge Alumni and gives a summary of his marriages.
