**COMPLETED** Lookup at Scottish People Centre
« on: Wednesday 16 April 14 21:42 BST (UK) »
If anyone is going to SPC and could undertake a look up I would be extremely grateful.

I'm still trying to track any children of Peter Cairnie and Isabella McKenzie Reid between 1911 and 1925 in Dalkeith.

Unfortunately, as I understand it, one can only look for children, where only the parents names are known, by attending a SP site (and being based in London, I haven't been able to track one down).  I don't know though, what is involved in looking through the indexes for 1911 through 1924 or just how much work this entails.

Peter & Isabella married in Dalkeith on 5th July 1912.  They had a daughter Jean Haldane Reid Cairnie in Dalkeith 10 March 1925 (died 16 Feb 1996) but it seems a long time between marriage in 1912 and a first child in 1925.  Appreciate WW1 intervened, and am aware Peter fought with the ANZAC forces at Gallipoli, when he signed up on arrival in Oz in 1914, but that still leaves a big gap.

Any assistance appreciated.

Hi

linked to your other post http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=683654.0

Robert McGill Cairnie belongs to someone else so he's not theirs.  There are 10 Cairnies in Midlothian between 1911 and 1925 including Joan but mostly all Edinburgh born.   SP website only has 3 downloadable images, otherwise you have to order the others by post to see, but Robert definitely isn't.

Thanks rutht2200, did identify that Robert wasn't theirs, but have found another child of theirs from your help / SP image, a John Cairney (1912) but that now throws up another surname (Cairney versus Cairnie) and Cairney births in Midlothian between 1911 & 1925 number 50!  - Can't afford to get images/certificates for all 50 of them though! ???

I think it is only from about 1928 or so that you can search online in person at a terminal at a main centre for births using mother's maiden name.
