Wymondham original CHURCH records.
« on: Tuesday 08 July 14 10:51 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Please can anyone tell me if the ORIGINAL CHURCH records for Wymondham Norfolk are still available as apposed to the Norfolk Archdeac...'s Transcripts, 1600-1812 which I know are available on Family search ( and have viewed)

The reason I ask is I believe their may have been an error in the transcript and would like to compare with the original church records.

The record I would like to check is for Rebecca Swatman born on the 11 Apr 1806 to parents Thomas and Margaret Swatman christened on the 16th April 1806 as seen here on the Archdeacon's transcript.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-12986-21652-55?cc=1824688&wc=M62Y-3PN:160239801,161127301,160243102,160239804.

The reason I question this is that Rebecca in the 1841 is living with Richard Emms ( Bricklayer) and Ruth Emms ( nee Swatman) who's parents were JOHN and Margaret Swatman.

Now I know they could well be cousins as opposed to siblings BUT on either side of the Archdeacon's Transcript above and below Rebecca's baptism record the father is listed as Thomas and I wonder if there could have been an error and the father was in fact JOHN and not Thomas .

So please if anyone is going to the Norwich archive and has access to the Wymondham ORIGINAL CHURCH records I would be most appreciative.

Kind Regards Judi

Hi Judi

The parish register images for Wymondham are also on family search.  Have a look at this link:

I am afraid it doesn't help you though  :(

Hi Barb

Many thanks for that, sadly that seems to rule out my theory.

Back to the drawing board. The hunt continues .............

Much appreciated

Umm Interesting Dave , the plot thickens

I need to do a full work up on the Swatman family I think to see of I can link the two parties as cousins  or via parents etc .

Thanks for the heads up
