Oh dear oh dear, I am sorry Jen.
The odd thing is, I actually re-read the thread twice after you pointed it out, before I noticed my mistake. 
I think I must be losing it ....

Britstown is in South Africa and The Smart Syndicate was a company, I think from England, who buildt the dam with the same name. It lies about 2o km from Britstown. The workers stayed in a small village named Giesenskraal. I am trying to find the real names of my grandparents on my mothers side. Maybe they were from Holland but my mother always said she was from Irish origin.

The only Vissers I can see are from the Netherlands.

I suppose thats what she meant. VIsser was her maiden name. She married David Clement Porter, my father. He was a Scottsman.
