« on: Wednesday 13 February 13 19:40 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information on wife of Michael Feely, father of James Feely that married Bridget Hart 8 Oct 1866 Kinlough.  Parents of Bridget were Pat Hart & Catherine (Kitty) Mac Gowan County Leitrim.  Thanks for any help, this is my first time on this board

Hello Patrick and welcome to Rootschat  :)

Irish Civil records did not begin until 1864 for births so you would be looking at Parish Records for James' birth.
There is some help here :
My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?
Introduction to Irish Records

Kinlough Parish Records look to have baptisms from 1835 and marriages from around that time. You can search here http://leitrim.rootsireland.ie/. There is a free index and a charge for downloading information.

If you don't already have the civil marriage certificate, you can order a copy of the register entry at http://www.groireland.ie/
The marriage index details are: Ballyshannon 1866 volume 17 page 21.

regards

Many Thanks. I have copy of RC marriage solemnized record, but it gives name of father only, would the civil regestration provide additional info ? and can it be obtained by internet ?  I will be attending the Leitrim Roots Festival in September 2013, My first trip to Ireland.  Any recommendations on how to contact Feely Family members still in Kinlough area ?   James and Bridget with 2 sons came to US in 1869 I have almost complete record of that branch in US to date.

The application form can be downloaded and then you have to send off for it by ordinary mail. It will explain on the site. It would hopefully give a townland and his father's name and occupation.

Oh I do hope you enjoy your trip- it sounds very exciting.

You could try here for Kinlough information and also the Leitrim Roots Festival site looks as though it will have a genealogy page in the future.

I have just brought a book called 'From Glack to Bunduff' the history of Kinlough Parish. The author is Thomas Feeley and it can be brought from the website kinlough.net. Definitely worth a read.
