Fanny Farnworth
« on: Tuesday 02 December 14 21:23 GMT (UK) »
You were briliant with help on Fanny's sister Ellen ... I've now spent hours pursuing Fanny and once again got stuck ... and I've tried Lancs BDM (found marriage) and Lancashire on-line Parish (very interesting). I found out (from Lancs BDM) that she married in my local church (St Katharines Blackrod). 1851 census has the surname as Famarth! Other info:
Born 1842 baptised 6/11/42
married 1967 to James Hulme
can't find deaths of either of them.

Now James Hulme was born in Blackrod and I think he must have been married before but I can't find a first wife - he and Fanny are in the 1881 census in Darwen and have children Anne 1858 Margaret 1861 James 1862 Elizabeth 1864 and Jacob 1870 - the latter must be Fanny's but who is mother of the others?? I can't seem to find these children's records ... other than the census.
I think James was born 1833. Baptised 7/9/34 (St Katharines) - that's the best fit date as there are other James Hulmes recorded there.

I don't understand why Ancestry.co.uk throws up so many records which are so obviously incorrect? It's been quite frustrating tonight ... I must be doing something wrong as I put in alot of info and I get such poor "matches" back eg names nothing like Fanny, years way out etc ...!

Thanks again ... I'm sure you experts will easily do this ...!

To confirm James has been married before, he is down as a widower when he marries Fanny.

Thanks for that - where did you find the cert??
I think I've carried the line on further as Jacob married Jane Ellen Barnes and they had a son Ernest born 1898 in Darwen ...

That sounds promising ... I'll look up the 1861 census again ... I couldn't find James when I looked earlier ... thank you.

The 1867 marriage of Fanny, born 1842, to James Hulme shows her to be 35 years of age which would make her birth 1832, her father is Nathan?
The other post for Ellen Farnworth who is sister to Fanny shows her father to be Edward.
So are we following the correct sisters or have I missed something.... perhaps not enough caffeine this morning ;D
