Thank you Claire for your speedy reply & kind welcome.
It was really interesting to see the handwritten christening records of the siblings of Thomas (himself christened 1793 see:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JWV6-F7D ) whom I had known about, i.e. John, Ann & Robert.
I had also found a possible earlier Jane (baptised 1792), but was both delighted & saddened to read of Ann's early death & the totally unexpected Matthew & then another baby girl's short lives.
I had just started using FreeReg a few days before posting here & hadn't thought to check any burials yet. The dates you found for Thomas' parents burials do seem to fit & his possible mother Mary's christening at Simonburn too, thank you.
Thank you too 'Radcliff' for your also speedy help in looking into this.
About the Newburn Parish registers, I wondered if the Jane & Elizabeth (1770's) you mentioned had a different father to Robert (1765) as in his case his father was noted to live at Water Row in Newburn ( & 'our' family's father's occupations, when mentioned, include wherry man, keel man, etc. rather than inn keeper.....although the Boathouse pub is on Water Row, drat!!).
Please forgive delay in responding, I type when pain allows,
Regards,
Gail
