Dear Suz and Sandy,

Thank you both for your contributions to this discussion. I am getting frustrated by the different transcriptions of Ann's surname in this 1755 marriage, that have so far ranged from STANYON, STANYAN, and STANYER to STANGAR, so I have asked someone from Earls Barton to look at the original, and try to get a digitised image of it. The STANYON/STANNION (and many other variants) family is commonly found in Northamptonshire, but does not appear to have been very resident in Earls Barton.

John Whitworth of Turvey married Rebecca KIRBY in Warwickshire in 1845. I am still awaiting a copy of the marriage certificate.

FreeREG has lots of Records you require;

JAMES Whitworth Baptised 08 May 1729, All Saints, Earls Barton
Parents ROBERT/ANN
Baptisms with Father ROBERT are;
ROBERT, 7 May 1713,
JOHN, 15 July 1716, likely burial 6 Dec 1716, Son of Robert Whitworth jnr
ROBERT/Ann are
ANN, 19 Dec 1717
THOMAS, 27 Sept 1719
JOHN, 10 Dec 1720
MARY, 19 May 1723
ROBERT last 1729

ANN, Wife of ROBERT Buried 4 Feb 1754

If Robert who married Ann was Robert Jnr, there is a Robert Whitworth, Yeoman buried 25 Dec 1725 who may be his Father.

Trish :)

Have found a little more but FreeREG is down busy

Baptisms of Children of JAMES/ANN are there also starting with Robert 1756 and ending with Charles 1777.

Dear Trish,

Thanks for this! I was looking at FreeREG this morning, as the person with whom I am in correspondence in Earls Barton supplied the data for this, but the FreeREG data still does not resolve the STANYON etc. issue, and does not contain the data on the baptism of John WHITWORTH on February 19, 1771. None of us is perfect!

Thank you very much Sandy for these. I must say that even with enlargement, I still find it difficult, without comparative letters, to read the last three letters of Ann's name. The Warwick marriage details at least confirm that John Whitworth's father was James Whitworth, Yeoman.
