7th Lincolnshire Regiment
« on: Sunday 30 March 14 22:22 BST (UK) »
My Grandad, Richard Wright,  was wounded on 5th Sept 1915 in France.  I have a letter from his Platoon Commander to my great grandmother telling her what had happened.  His Reg. No. is 11017.

Is it possible to find out where he was at the time, which hospital he would have been treated in and how he got home.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You would need the war diary they are usually held at Kew some are online.
You can search on the discovery search engine at national archives.
The casualty evacuation chain wont be covered but at least youll know where it happened

Edit its online http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/details/redirect/?CATLN=7&CATID=-2241959

Have you tried contacting Lincolnshire Archives in Rumbold street ? I found them very helpful when I needed information about a soldier in the Lincolnshire Regiment.

The place to look is The Long Long Trail - www.1914-1918.net.

It says on there:
7th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Lincoln in September 1914 as part of K2 and came under command of 51st Brigade in 17th (Northern) Division.
14 July 1915 : landed at Boulogne.

Following the links for the 17th (Northern) Division, which says:
This Division was established by the Northern Command in September 1914, as part of the Army Orders authorising Kitchener's Second New Army, K2. Early days were somewhat chaotic, the new volunteers having very few trained officers and NCOs to command them, no organised billets or equipment. The units of the Division initially concentrated in the Wareham - Lulworth - Swanage - Wool- Bovington area of Dorset but moved in late May 1915 to the Winchester area.

After receiving an order that the Division would be retained for home defence (subsequently cancelled), advance parties left for France on 6 July. Main embarkation began on 12 July and units moved to concentrate near St Omer.

The Division served on the Western Front for the remainder of the war, taking part in many of the significant actions:

1915
The Division spent its initial period of trench familiarisation and then holding the front lines in the southern area of the Ypres salient.

No further details, unfortunately!
