This will explain about the census details.
Birth marrage and death certificates can be ordered from the GRO or as iI prefer directly from the relevant Register Office for the distrist.
The are usually more willing to kake sure you have the correct one, it`s best to give as many details that you are certain of when applying.
Fredericks birth cert will surely give his both parents names.

Thanks for the pointers and the right direction to aim for.

Will try and start to order the certificates once I am sure I have enough information, as from experience, it can prove to be an expensive exercise ordering the wrong certificates. And especially from Australia!!!!

Much appreciated.

Ellen Lloyd birth registered Dec qtr 1841

This is likely to be her -
Ellen Lloyd baptised November 22nd 1841 at Penalt Parish Church, daughter of George and Elizabeth Ann.  Fathers occupation paper manufacturer, the factory was where they lived in Whitebrook.

Of course you need certificates to confirm all this

They appear on the first page of the 1841 census of Penalt and George and Elizabeth are both said to be 20 and not born in the county, and he was working at the paper mill, so Ellen was their first child.

This paper mill was quite a big employer until modern factories with steam driven machines rather than water mills closed it down and everybody moved on.

Hi RCB

Thanks for your message out of the blue. I thought that I has exhausted this avenue of research, so your message was great to get yet further information. Will write off and order the certificates if possible to confirm the information.

Appreciate your help & regards

There's a message to the Mods from someone related to this family: Rosemary_Thomson. I will see whether I can direct her to this thread to post herself. (Assuming you're still around yourselves!)

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Ellen, born to George and Elizabeth Ann Lloyd of Whitebrook in 1841 came to New Zealand with her parents on the ship Mary in 1849. She married George Stephenson in Dunedin in 1863. Ellen and George were my great grandparents.
