I would also be interested in this book as my gr gr grandfather John Broome was caretaker at the school in the 1870s.

The photos span from pre-1900 through to 1977 when the school burnt down.

Have you seen a little book 'Old Dawley & Pool Hill' comiled by Rev. C. M. Haynes??

Publ: A Countryside Publication 1984
ISBN 0 86157 154 1

A compilation of old photos of Dawley & Pool Hill. The Pool Hill photos largely focus on the school of that name (where the author was head teacher) & which later became Captain Webb Primary (where I used to teach!

I've tried a Google search for this book both by title and ISBN number without success. I wonder if you know of a bookseller that may have it in stock?

The reason I ask is because my mother attended Pool Hill School around 1930 and I'd love to see a picture of it.

Thanks a lot Bob.
Seeing the photo of the school where my gr gr grandfather was caretaker in the 1880s brings the ancestors closer and they are not just names.

Your welcome Irene. Just for information the school was built in 1846 and destroyed by fire in 1977.

Wonderful; thank you so much. It looks very imposing, and perhaps a little grim.

Mum says she remembers walking up a lane or track on the right of the picture and entering through a door on the other side so I assume this view is of the rear of the building.

I don’t want to hijack cardiff’s thread here but mum can remember several names of pupils who attended in the early 1930s and it would be great to see if any of these are still contactable. Perhaps it would be better if I started a new thread for that.

Thank you Bob, you’ve made mum very happy.

When you start your new thread I may be able to help out. My wife and I still live near Dawley, she went to Pool Hll school but after your mother more like the 40's.

Bob.
