Watson family in Macduff
« on: Sunday 20 April 14 22:00 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone has any information regarding my Watson ancestors in Macduff? My Grandfather was Innes McKay b1919 in Whitehills. His father was Innes McKay and his mother was Margaret Ann Watson,  both parents born in Macduff in the 1870-1880s?
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Jason

Hi

Can you clarify exactly what type of info you are looking for?  Do you already have all census and BMD info?

Hi Jason

Just adding this link to old post as it has a little more info www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=645609.0

What have you found so far in censuses etc.? Have you looked at the marriage of Innes and Margaret to confirm their parents' names etc.?

If you are trying to extend the family and siblings of Innes b. 1919, as your are finding, it gets difficult as little is to be found online given events are more recent. Always the hope that someone directly connected will see the post and you make contact that way.

Monica

Hi Monica
Thanks for the link will check back after work. Innes b1919 was my Grandad and he had no siblings. I know his Grandfather and Uncles were fishermen out of Banff & Macduff, but I guess that was far from unusual at that time!
I believe Innes' father was also called Innes McKay (son of an Andrew McKay).
The Watson side I know very little of except my great-Grandmother was Margaret Watson.

1881 shown as MacKay - all b Macduff

Andrew 27 fisherman
Elsie 25
Child 7 days - male (this would be son Andrew from 1891 entry)
Gamrie ED 10 Page 19 Line 23

Elsie was probably Elsie West and there is a marriage in 1879 in Banff which matches on SP

This is probably the 1871 entry for her but I would recommend that you download a copy of the 1879 marriage cert to confirm parentage although her brothers name is a bit of a giveaway as is the address

14 Crook O Ness St - all b Macduff

Andrew West 57
Elspet  45
Andrew  24
James  22
Innes  19
Elsie  17
Mary Ann  15
Alexander 12
Margaret  8
George P  7
Christina  3
Banff ED 10 Page 1 Line 22

Looks like West married West

And Elsie was born Elspet

Thank you so much. I will check this all on the laptop when I get in from work. But I have a strong belief this must all be right. In fact, I remember visiting my Grandads Aunty Elsie on childhoid holidays in Banff & Macduff in the 60s,70s & 80s.
This is all so amazing! My Grandma is Catherine  Nicholson also b1921 Banff. Her father was born in Edinburgh from parents who had Orkney/Wick origins. While her mothers origins were from Newcastle.
Thank you all so much for your help
