William McPherson Prison Deputy Governor

Hello.

My ancestor rose to be a deputy governor of Calton Hill Prison; from his death reg (SP) he was in that position when he died in 1857.

Is there anything on him from the prison archives?

William was born in Sutherland; place unknown; death reg did not give it.  His parents were James McPHerson and Catherine Munro.  I'd dearly love to finally locate my McPherson roots!

It looks to me that William left Sutherland as a young man and married a girl from South Leith: Margaret Heron, with whom he had 7 children; i emanate from their eldest, James who emigrated to Melbourne in 1854, arriving there in Feb 1855.

Here's hoping.
