Not related, but The Times gives some information, and somebody has transcribed that and other bits of info here:
http://www.patbrit.com/bil/Cmy/DtRpt.html

The ship is on the 1881 census, if anybody would like to look at the birthplaces of the crew members.

Hi jorose,

Many thanks.I have seen that site and many others. So far I have contacted someone who also shares a similar interest in the Doterel.

They have even made a DVD about the wreck which is off Chile.Until my family tree lead me to it I had never heard of the Doterel.

Kind Regards

Steve

HMS Doterel blow up shortly after arrival at Punta Arenas, Chile, in the
Magellan Strait.  My great grandfather William Pridham was one of those killed.

Just found a link to the HMS Doterel in my family tree.  My GG Grandfather was Joseph Trout one of the twelve survivors.

My G Grandmother was born in 1886 in Scotland where he was working for the coastguard.  According to his service record he retired in 1899.

My GG-Uncle, William Charles Stamp died in that explosion. He was age 16 and his rating was Boy First Class. His name is on a plaque at Puntas Arenas, Chile along with the names of all the crew. His name is shown under the "Boys Rank" as W. Stimp. On his naval record, the end of this service is "ship blew up".
